Labiaplasty Los Angeles

Of all the parts on a woman’s body, the vagina- the most private of all the parts- is perhaps the area that can affect her self-confidence and self-image the most in terms of appearance. As it is the most private part, many women have not felt comfortable enough discussing her vagina, even if it happened to be the source of visual embarrassment, and in some cases, physical discomfort.

But, thankfully, these days, the floor for discussion on the woman’s vagina and her sexuality is much more open and conversational than ever before; most women these days are comfortable enough speaking up about any discomforts and dissatisfactions with their vagina and its appearance.

Even though labiaplasty as we know it has been around for a few decades already, it has been relatively uncommon plastic surgery procedure. However, thanks to recent societal acceptance of plastic surgery and a more open forum on the vagina and its appearance, labiaplasty, labia rejuventation, and labia reduction in Beverly Hills has been one of the fastest growing sectors of plastic surgery in the past few years, with some places seeing as much as a five-fold increase in the demand for labiaplasty procedures by patients. Dr. Kapoor is well respected and known for offering one of the best plastic surgery Beverly Hills and Los Angeles has available.

What is Labiaplasty?

Simply put, labiaplasty is a surgical plastic procedure designed to alter the shape and look of the inner vaginal lips, also known as the labia minora, and the outer vaginal lips, also known as the labia majora. More specifically, labiaplasty involves the complete excision and removal of excess vaginal lips- either the labia minora or the labia majora, or sometimes, both.

The job of the labia minora is to protect the more sensitive areas on the outer vagina: the clitoris and the vaginal opening. The job of the labia majora, in turn, is to protect the labia minora. For most women, the labia minora is comfortably tucked within the folds of the labia majora, but for some women, the labia minora protrudes out past the labia majora, subjecting it to constant pressure and pinching (caused by the surrounding labia majora), as well as possible chafing, since it is not being protected by the labia majora.

Any pressure, pinching, and chafing resulting from labia minora that is larger than the labia majora can be relieved and corrected through labiaplasty.

Are you a good candidate for Labiaplasty?

If you have vaginal lips, either the outer lips or the inner lips or both, that are long, wide, or oddly-shaped enough to cause you to doubt your self-confidence, or possibly, cause you discomfort or physical pain, you are a good candidate for labiaplasty as long as you are at least in average health. Women who are experiencing actual physical discomfort or pain large or long vaginal lips, especially during exercise and sex, and have found themselves shying away from activities that irritate their vaginal lips are likely the best candidates for labiaplasty in Los Angeles.

The majority of women who seek a labiaplasty these days are women who were born with the vaginal lips that they have- vaginal lips that have resulted either genetically or congenitally.  But there are a good number of women who desire a labiaplasty due to the effects of pregnancy and childbirth on their vaginal regions. After giving birth, almost all women will experience some level of changes to their inner and outer vaginal structures, usually unfavorable changes, but most are slight enough that it does not drastically affect the woman’s life or self-confidence.

However, some women will experience a significant compromise to the tightness of their vaginas or the length and elasticity of their labia minora and labia majora. It is highly likely that these women will seek vaginal rejuvenation surgery, which is a surgical cosmetic procedure dealing with the inner vagina, rather than the outer vagina, in conjunction with their labiaplasty surgery in order to comprehensively rejuvenation their vaginal region after childbirth.

What to expect during a Labiaplasty procedure?

Depending on the degree of the labiaplasty necessary in order to bring about the results that the patient desires, different procedures and techniques may be used from patient to patient.

Amputation of the labia minora and/or the labia majora is the most common method of labia reduction in Los Angeles. The cosmetic surgeon will use either a scalpel or a laser to excise the excess vaginal lips, parallel to the edge of the labia. Once the optimal amount of excess vaginal lips has been removed, the surgeon will suture up the edge of the labia, along the excision site; if a laser was used, stitches are not necessary. Gauze or surgical bandages are placed on the excision sites.

Most labiaplasty surgeries take about 1 to 2 hours to complete, typically under local anesthesia.

What to expect during Labiaplasty recovery?

Almost all labiaplasty procedures are performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning that patients can return to their homes the same day as their procedures. In order to encourage an efficient and satisfactory recovery after the labiaplasty procedure, it is highly recommended that patients follow any specific post-operative recovery procedures given by their cosmetic surgeon.

The surgeon will prescribe antibiotics to discourage the development of any post-op infections and in the case of post-op pain or discomfort, pain medication will be prescribed. Swelling and bruising of the labias and the overall vaginal area is to be expected immediately following the procedure and during the weeks after. Most swelling and bruising should subside within 6 weeks.

Most patients feel well enough to return to work and resume most of their regular activities within 3 or 4 days after their labiaplasty in Beverly Hills. It has been recommended that patients refrain from wearing thongs, using tampons, or engaging in sexual activities involving their vaginal area for at least 6 weeks after their labiaplasty procedures. Full results should be recognized within 6 months of the procedure.
