healthy breasts

Women who consider getting larger and more feminine looking breasts are always contemplating a number of things before undergoing breast augmentation. Before patients choose between silicone breast implants or saline implants they find themselves wondering about what type of food to eat to maintain healthy breasts.

First, it is best to meet with the top plastic surgeon Beverly Hills has to offer and discuss your options for breast surgery. Now that it is bikini season, patients may be feeling more self-conscious about their breasts more than ever, before taking the plunge of getting bigger breasts consider understanding a few priorities and the best foods to consume for healthy breasts.

Breast augmentation in Beverly Hills is one of the most commonly chosen cosmetic procedures chosen by female patients to enhance the size, shape, fullness and appearance of the breasts. The best breast augmentation surgeon can help determine whether your body type is suitable for a large volume implant and if existing breast tissue is durable to host the breast implants under the chest muscles.

Aside from choosing a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, a patient should always consider her options before undergoing the procedure. Patients today are leaning towards the old adage of less is more in breast augmentation. Natural is the latest style, so your plastic surgeon can help find the right implant and right shape, so they do not give off the look of being obvious. Women still desire the perky appearance that can be achieved through perfect shape, size and symmetry which remarkably can be done within 2 cup sizes of the natural breast size.

Breast implants have changed for the better since first introduced, and so has a woman’s perception in retaining healthy breasts. This in large part is due to a woman’s nutrition. We all know that breasts cannot be enlarged by nutritional habits, but certain food items can help decrease your risk of breast cancer. The top five foods to help maintain healthy breasts include:

  • Tea
  • Mushrooms
  • Pomegranates
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Salmon

We know that high fat content in salmon frightens most patients, but oily fish is rich in good fats, omega-3 fatty acids. The most recent study from the journal BMJ, an official international medical journal, found that women who consumed more omega-3 fatty acids from fish were 14 percent less likely to develop breast cancer, compared to those who consumed the least amount. The American Heart Association recommends adding a minimum of 3.5 ounces of wild fatty fish twice a week.

For the most trusted breast augmentation Beverly Hills has to offer, our patients count on us to professionally guide them through their options. Rightfully so, the best breast augmentation surgeon in Beverly Hills can provide his patients with peace of mind by achieving the results desired.

Reveal Your Washboard Abdominals with Liposuction

With summer sun knocking on our door the one thing we all want is that toned and lean figure to show off on the beach. After all the dieting and exercising you still find your midsection and thighs carrying more flab than you expected. With more and more people fighting against obesity, patients realize that stubborn pockets of fat are likely due to genetics, hormonal imbalance, stress and lack of effective exercise. While everyone who has tried a diet knows that every little bit helps, but there is no cure for stubborn fat unless you resort to liposuction.

Liposuction is a versatile body contouring procedure that removes adipose tissue (body fat) with a metal tube called a cannula to suction out stubborn fat. While there is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle, liposuction can help remove the unattractive layers of fat that cling to our bodies after major weight loss, pregnancy or weight loss surgery. By targeting these unwanted fat cells in the abdomen, patients achieve results by shrinking loose belly skin with permanent fat cell removal. Expert studies continuously back up the validity of liposuction as the solution to get rid of standing fat.

As per the study in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, fat cells do not return to targeted areas on a patient’s body following liposuction. More importantly, fat cells do not get redistributed to the untreated areas after liposuction.

After successfully eliminating problem areas, we know how tough it can be for patients to follow up their results with long-term care and mindful eating. Eating for continued liposuction results is necessary but plan on paying attention to how you eat as well as what you eat. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that those who ate a meal slowly were likely to eat less than those who feasted quickly. Researchers found that people who changed their eating rate to a slower pace felt less hungry for up to 3.5 hours after a meal and were able to abstain unwanted weight gain.

Beverly Hills liposuction patients are able to gain toned abdominals for that washboard stomach look. The lower your body fat percentage is the more defined your abs will be in the long run. If patients generally possess adipose tissue in the midsection, thighs or buttocks, patients should aim to be within 30 percent of their ideal weight in order for their firm muscle tone to be revealed. If you have unresponsive or excess fat in these areas then liposuction may be the solution for you.

Your Big Ticket to Resolving Breathing Problems with Rhinoplasty

Many of us are already in the know, but allergy season is upon us and breathing problems are not taken lightly especially in the world of rhinoplasty. When a patient expresses that their airways are too narrow or blocked it is vital to take steps in correcting airways, lungs and other troubled areas. Plenty of patients find that the majority of their issues lies within their nose. The great news is that nasal obstructions do not have last forever. Rhinoplasty may be beneficial to not only correct the aesthetic appearance in your nose, but to improve and possibly resolve functional breathing issues.

Obstructed Nasal Passages

Many patients have difficulty breathing because their nasal columella is crooked. The columella is cartilage between the two nostrils, and if it is crooked one nostril can be slightly smaller than the other. Rhinoplasty can correct the columella to its normal position and allow clear nasal passages to breathe naturally through the nose.

Deviated Septum

The most common nasal problem treated by rhinoplasty specialists is a deviated septum. It occurs when the central piece of cartilage in the nose deviates from the central line, partially blocking either, or both of your nasal passages. If the septum is off center in this way then breathing is more difficult, which may even lead to obstructive sleep apnea and for cases such as these septoplasty may be more beneficial to correcting the nasal structures.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nose surgery to treat obstructed airways requires careful evaluation of the nasal structure as it relates to airflow and breathing properly. Correcting a deviated septum is achieved by adjusting the nasal structure to produce better alignment. Many people with breathing problems are led to believe that their breathing issues are sinus related, but they later realize that their problems stem from a deviated septum.

Enlarged Turbinates

Turbinates act as filters for the nose and should not be removed from the patient. When nasal turbinates become enlarged they can leave a patient feeling congested. Reduction of abnormal sized turbinates can be effective in improving breathing problems. This procedure can be performed by itself without impacting the appearance of the patient or can be treated in conjunction with nose reshaping.

Here is a tip that can help you decide if rhinoplasty can improve your breathing: Lift the tip of your nose and see if you breathe easier. If yes, then try wearing adhesive nasal strips at night to see if there is continuous improvement. If both of these methods prove to be helpful then schedule a consultation for rhinoplasty at our office in Beverly Hills and we can discuss your options to trim, reshape and reposition portions of septal cartilage and bone.

We all have that urgency to get a flat and toned belly just in time for summer, and the good news is that researchers are listening and finding new ways to help Beverly Hills and Los Angeles consumers achieve their goals. Take a good look at your diet and what will you find? You probably see a lot of unhealthy fat choices, which is the reason why our bodies harvest so much visceral fat. Well, a lot of research continues to find out the truth behind our bulging bellies, and a Swedish study shows that it is not the amount of fat we are consuming, but the type of fat that is in our food.

The average American carries about 30 billion fat cells in the body, but the problem with obesity is the saturated fats in our food. According to the Swedish study published in the American journal Diabetes, fat compositions in saturated fat food products build more fat and less muscle in the human body than polyunsaturated fats. Not only that, but saturated fats are also responsible for increased cholesterol levels in the blood and the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The Swedish study involved 39 young adults of normal weight who consumed 750 extra calories on top of their regular diet for seven weeks. Researchers set a goal for each of the subjects to gain three percent of their starting weight from eating a lab-developed muffin made with saturated fat (palm oil), while the other half were fed muffins made with polyunsaturated fat (sunflower oil).

After the study, the body composition of the participants was surprising. As a result, each of the participants gained weight, but the saturated fat group gained weight in their bellies around internal organs, while the polyunsaturated fat group gained less belly fat and actually increased muscle mass.

Switching to Polyunsaturated Fat

Where are all the good fats at? While more research continues to find the best foods to eliminate belly fat, we can start by switching to foods with polyunsaturated fat. A few sources of polyunsaturated fats can be found in foods such as:

  • Avocados
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Sunflower oil
  • Fish

Trim the Fat

Take your diet and exercise routine to the next level when you make the switch to polyunsaturated fat food products. Dr. Kapoor knows that problem areas, such as the belly, become more troublesome as we age. This makes it difficult to achieve that lean and flat stomach we have been working hard for, but there are additional measures that can help reach your goal. A tummy tuck in Beverly Hills is a great option for those who have come close to their weight-loss mission, because the abdominoplasty procedure is designed to remove excess fat and skin that is unresponsive to diet and exercise.

Our Los Angeles tummy tuck  patients find that it is easier to live a lifestyle that is filled with healthy food choices and a slender figure. If you want to get a flat stomach, start working polyunsaturated fats into your diet and find out how a tummy tuck can enhance your results.

Dynamic and Static Wrinkles: Understanding Premature Aging Signs

As people naturally age, we all develop facial lines and dreaded wrinkles, but we are still puzzled about the latest treatments available to reverse aging signs. But, many of us do not know the differences of facial wrinkles and how to go about treating them, so to help we are sharing some vital information to help you understand the effects of dynamic and static wrinkles.

The most common aging signs are visible around the eyes, forehead and mouth. These premature wrinkles are categorized into two classes known as dynamic and static wrinkles. Each type has a unique cause and establishes a need for different methods of treatment to help restore youthful skin.

Dynamic Wrinkles

We see most facial creases and wrinkles spawn as early as our twenties and most of which are caused by repetitive muscle movements, called dynamic movement. Our continued habits of squinting, frowning and smiling, eventually leads to the deep facial lines on the skin’s surface. Everyone usually develops dynamic wrinkles in the following areas:

  • Around the eyes
  • Between the eyebrows
  • Forehead

The multiple years of repetitive facial movements leads to our premature aging. Botox counteracts the effects of dynamic wrinkles by targeting the muscle groups in these areas and temporarily paralyzes them to attain relaxed and smooth skin for up to six months.

Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles evolve over time due to the loss of elasticity in skin. Healthy facial skin relies on collagen, the skin’s protein, and collagen gradually breaks down as the body ages causing laxity. Static wrinkles are primarily age-related, but they are heavily influenced from the effects of sun damage, smoking, genetics, and poor diet. Most static wrinkles develop along the mouth, cheeks and neck.

These facial flaws can be resolved with a natural solution that does not involve muscle relaxing. Instead of Botox, we treat these problems with facial fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Zyderm. Facial fillers treat fine lines and wrinkles by injecting a purified collagen-based solution that fills in these areas to replace lost volume and improve skin’s elasticity. All fillers serve a different purpose, but a consultation can determine which filler is the best for the areas in need of correction.

Facial fillers and Botox in Beverly Hills allow you to make your skin smoother and naturally younger. Most patients experience enhanced results when they undergo a combination of injections to serve all their premature aging signs. No matter what type of wrinkle, Dr. Kapoor will provide an effective, long-lasting solution to reduce the appearance of aged skin and restore your youthful glow.

Double Mastectomy Better for Women with Breast Cancer

A new study suggests that women diagnosed with inherited breast cancer have a better chance of survival if they undergo a double mastectomy. Research was published in the journal BMJ, that shows women with BRCA1 and BRCA2 are less likely to have these human genes mutate if their breasts are removed.

According to the National Cancer Institute, inherited gene mutations of the BRCA genes account  for up to 25 percent of hereditary breast cancers and up to 10 percent of all breast cancers. By the time women reach the age of 70 approximately 55 percent of women with the BRCA1 mutation gene and 45 percent with the BRCA2 mutation gene will have developed breast cancer.

Researchers analyzed 390 women with early-stage breast cancer for over 20 years in an attempt to find out if double mastectomy was indeed better than single (unilateral) mastectomy. Of the patients studied, 44 underwent double (bilateral) mastectomy and the remaining 346 had a single mastectomy; with 137 of these removing the remaining breast at a later date. Following up with these women, research showed that only 18 of the double mastectomy patients died of breast cancer and 61 after unilateral mastectomy.

Results revealed that a double mastectomy was linked to a 48 percent reduction in death after breast cancer diagnosis, compared with a single mastectomy. In terms of survival, women have a better chance of living longer after a double mastectomy is performed for early-stage breast cancer

Researchers also indicated that many women find that removing both breasts is a difficult decision and could lead to severe psychological effects of anxiety and depression. With that we find it in good will to stand by a patient’s decision to have single or double mastectomy in an effort to evade the effects of breast cancer.

Speak to our board certified plastic surgeon and have him discuss how breast augmentation can enhance the look and feel of your breasts after breast cancer treatment. The main two possibilities of breast reconstruction is by fat transfer or breast implants. Dr. Kapoor can help you decide which procedure is best for you during consultation.

Nearly 300,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and while breast cancer treatments are growing in sophistication, women can decide with their physician if mastectomy is best for them.

Weight Loss: Separating Solutions from False Promises

Sensa, the makers of “the sprinkle diet,” recently settled a lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission for $26.5 million, according to a story in Bloomberg Businessweek. The suit was filed because of Sensa’s use of “unfounded weight-loss claims and misleading endorsements,” as the FTC put it. This story comes as no surprise; weight management is a $14 billion global market, with companies looking to cash in on the ever-expanding popularity of products like Sensa. However, consumers need to be wary of products that promise easy weight loss without dietary changes or exercise routines.

If it Sounds Too Good to be True…

Most of us realize that achieving significant, lasting weight loss will never be as simple as taking a pill or sprinkling some powder on your food. The truth is, there are only a few ways to lose weight, and none of them are exactly effortless. Whether you need to lose 10 pounds or 200 pounds, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is going to be a factor. Healthier foods and gym memberships may cost a little more, but they’re still cheaper than diet products like Sensa. Seeing a doctor before you make any major lifestyle changes is typically advised.

Body Contouring

The other proven method for weight loss is through surgery. The type of surgery that’s right for you will depend on how much weight you want to lose. Major weight loss usually requires bariatric surgery, such as the popular lap band procedure, which limits the amount of food the patient is able to eat at any given time.

For patients who just need to refine one or two problem areas, body contouring procedures can help you achieve a slimmer figure. Liposuction is great for stubborn fat pockets that no amount of diet and exercise can completely eliminate. This is usually due to genetic or other factors outside the patient’s control. And for patients who achieve massive weight loss, a tummy tuck or body lift can help reduce the excess skin that often remains once the fat is gone.

Maintaining your figure after surgery will also require a healthy diet and exercise routine. The only thing that won’t help is a diet product like Sensa.

Breast Reduction Improves a Woman’s Mental Health

Women choose to have breast reduction for a variety of reasons. Most women with naturally large breasts share common culprits of pain and discomfort through daily activities, exercise and even sleep. Though some may choose to fight through the pain, breast reduction can play its advantage to not only make living easier and pain-free but it can improve a woman’s psychosocial well-being.

Each woman has her own reasons for a breast reduction but many with overly large breasts experience feelings of insecurity during sex and low self-confidence in social environments. Finding clothes that complement their figure is often times challenging and even impossible.

Breast reduction involves removing excess fat, glandular tissue and skin to improve size, shape and proportion of a woman’s breasts. This in turn creates a better figure for women who crave simple and flattering curves.

A study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, showed that breast reduction improves a woman’s physical and mental health. Women also experience relief of pain and discomfort as well as satisfaction with their sex lives.

Researchers from the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University, Columbus held an anonymous survey of 49 women who underwent breast reduction, measuring their satisfactory levels in the following areas:

  • Appearance of breasts

  • Sexual well-being

  • Physical well-being

  • Psychosocial well-being

These women recorded their satisfaction of these areas of life based on a 100-point scale. Based on the results, researchers determined that breast reduction led to significant improvements in regular activities and appearance. Study results showed improvement in all areas based on their before and after surgery scores. Score results included were:

  • Breast appearance – from 20 before surgery to 80 after surgery

  • Sexual well-being – from 40 to 78

  • Physical well-being – from 43 to 81

  • Psychosocial well-being –  41 to 84

In an effort to show medical insurance agents just how beneficial breast reduction is for women, this study holds the evidence needed to put women with large breasts at ease if they are undecided about breast reduction surgery.

No longer do women need to suffer from the pain of overly large breasts. Discomfort in the neck, back, shoulders and breasts all decrease following breast reduction. Difficulty doing daily activities, exercising and sleeping become simpler and enjoyable after excessive breast tissue is removed. Women can learn more about breast reduction with Dr. Kapoor, board certified Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.

Unmasked: Display Your Face with Smoother Skin

This Halloween, unmask your face and make Botox the finishing touch to this year’s costume. We all remember the days of our youth where October was a time to dress up like someone else, but now that we are older all we really want is that youthful look we used to hide under the mask on Halloween. Now is the time to get Botox to reclaim your youth this Halloween.

Botox injections will reduce the signs of aging that occur in the face. Laugh lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frowns can all be addressed to leave softer and smoother skin for long lasting results.

Muscle contractions in the face as well as the natural aging process cause the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. The more that the muscles move with our expressions, the more these lines maintain their appearance between the brow, forehead and around the eyes. Neither a mask or masking tape can make these lines retract, but Botox can directly relax these fixated areas of the face to rejuvenate and refresh your look.

How Much Botox Is Needed?

The amount of Botox varies on the problem areas of each patient as well as the dosage injection. An experienced cosmetic surgeon accurately determines the amount of Botox needed to address problem areas for every patient. Usually there are one to three injections per muscle treated, and new candidates are likely to be eased into treatment especially if frown lines are not so deep. Maintenance treatments often require much less Botox than initial treatments.

What Can Be Expected After Treatment?

Smoother and tighter skin becomes visible within a few hours or a couple of days. Patients sometimes notice appearance of tighter skin the day of treatment, and need about a week to reach maximum results. Results can last up to 1 year following Botox treatment for wrinkles.

Will I Be Ready For Halloween Night?

Yes. There will be no need to paint your face black or hide your face under a mask. According to Mayo Clinic, Botox takes effect in the days following procedure, and depending on placement, the results may last from three months to a year. Results take effect within a few days after treatment and improve throughout the remainder of the year.

Botox is the perfect finishing touch you will need to add to your Halloween costume. Everyone at your costume party will be amazed with the fun and energy from your youthful appearance. Your new impression will last long throughout the holiday season and have your ready to ring in the new year. Facial rejuvenation is just one quick step away, schedule your appointment today.

Beverly Hills Dr. Vishal Kapoor is a highly experienced board certified plastic surgeon who has mastered the modern tummy tuck technique to sculpt the perfect abdomen.

A tummy tuck, abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat in the abdominal region. Depending on the amount of weakness in the underlying muscles, the procedure will restore the separated muscles to make the stomach smoother and firmer. Patients who suffer from stretch marks and loose skin can also see results of smoother-looking and tighter skin.

How to Know if a Tummy Tuck is Good for Your Body

Men and women everywhere suffer from accumulating body fat and excess skin over the course of their lives, it is a natural occurrence. Some people are experts in hiding the fat and others may not see it as an issue, but many want to know what a tummy tuck can achieve for their body. Tummy tucks are not the same for everyone. The extent of damage in the abdominal shows the surgeon the amount of existing strength, fat and loose skin. The procedure is made available to anyone who is close to their target weight loss goal and for women who do not have future plans to become pregnant. Here are some factors to consider for treatment with tummy tucks:

  • Small amount of fat and skin under the belly button

  • Moderate amount of fat and skin with borderline weak abdominal muscles

  • Large amount of loose skin and fat and weak abdominals

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, good candidates for abdominoplasty have excess or sagging abdominal skin, protruding and unproportioned abdomen, weak and separated abdominal muscles and excess fatty tissue.

What Causes Excess Fat or Skin

Everyone has different diets and levels of consumption that can show effects to the abdominal region over time. The most classic factor in excess fat and skin to accumulate is overeating. People who eat too much in every meal do not know the side effects. Lack of exercise will not help maintain a slim stomach.

Many fat-producing foods are a major cause of fat building up in the belly. When at the restaurant or supermarket choose nonfat or low-fat products. That goes for yogurt, milk, meat and condiments.

Fast food is another thing, the more the body consumes the harder it is to break down. Reduce fast food to once a week or every other week.
