Breast Augmentation Surgery
Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Kapoor is very experienced with breast augmentation surgery, both with and without breast implants. Breast augmentation, technically termed augmentation mammoplasty, and commonly referred to as a “boob job” is the most commonly performed cosmetic plastic surgery procedure in the United States according to the annual statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Over 286,000 women underwent the procedure in 2012 alone. It can enhance the size, shape and appearance of a woman's breasts for several reasons.
Why Women Have Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breasts are too small:
This is the most common reason why women decide to undergo breast augmentation. Dr. Kapoor can provide you with his professional expertise and help you decide which size breast implants will give you the figure that you want. There are several before and after breast implants photos you can use to see the amazing results you can achieve!
Aging, weight loss, and several other factors can cause changes to the size and shape of a woman's breasts. If you've lost the firmness and upright position of your breasts, breast augmentation surgery in our Beverly Hills facility can help you gain the shape that you want
Reconstruction following a Mastectomy (Breast Cancer Treatment):
A mastectomy is the surgical removal of one or both breasts in the treatment of breast cancer, commonly performed following mastectomy to retain the female figure for physical and psychological reasons. The breast reconstruction surgery may involve the use of implants or the use of your own fat and tissue from your abdomen.
Breasts reduced in volume post-pregnancy:
Pregnancy can take a real toll on your body. Following breast-feeding, many “mommies” notice a loss of shape and size in their breasts. A Mommy Makeover can include breast augmentation with or without a lift, a tummy tuck, liposuction and/or other cosmetic procedures.
If your breasts are asymmetrical, breast augmentation can balance your chest and give you a well proportioned body, tremendously improving your daily lifestyle when it comes to clothes, confidence, and exercise.
Breasts have abnormal shape:
Many women want rounder, fuller breasts. Even if you are happy with your current size, you can enhance the shape and proportions of your chest to reveal more attractive cleavage with or without the use of breast implants.
Types of Breast Implants
If there was truly one breast implant that was better than the other, then there would be only one implant available. Each implant has its pros and cons that you must weigh in on. Along with Dr. Kapoor’s professional opinion, you will be able to decide which breast implants can help you achieve your desired results.
Saline Breast Implants
- Exterior sac of the implant is made of solid silicone, but it is filled with a sterile saline solution
- Better safety profile (in case of leakage saline is harmless when absorbed by the body)
- Often recommended if you have a decent amount of natural tissue (“B” or “C” cup)
- Can be inserted through a very small incision and their final size can be adjusted by differential filling of saline
Silicone Breast Implants
These implants come pre-filled with a silicone gel.
Feel more “natural” than saline breast implants.
Often recommended for thin patients that have very little tissue.
- In 2007, results of several national clinical studies showed no adverse effects of silicone, and thus silicone breast implants were approved for use in practically all women

I show her hundreds of before and after pictures to compare results. I go through the different options in regards to size and type of implant. I stress the importance of choosing an implant size that allows you to achieve the body YOU have been dreaming of, not the body someone else has been dreaming about."
Dr. Vishal Kapoor
What to Expect
Dr. Kapoor will perform the procedure onsite at the Beverly Hills Wellness Surgery Center, a state-of-the-art AAAHC-certified facility. Surgical time will be discussed with you, but the average surgery takes about one hour to complete. General anesthesia is often used.
Before surgery you and Dr. Kapoor will have
- Selected your implant size
- Decided on the type of implant (silicone vs. saline)
- Discussed the type and location of the incision
- Discussed post-op aftercare and recovery
The Breast Augmentation Procedure
The incisions are strategically placed in one of three possible locations to allow the resulting scars to be as inconspicuous as possible:
- In the crease beneath the breasts
- In the armpit
- Around the areola
Working through the incision, your plastic surgeon will lift the skin and tissue to create a pocket for the insertion of the implant. This pocket is often created beneath the pectoral muscle, though it can also be made above the chest muscle, directly behind the tissue. Dr. Kapoor will then insert the implants into the pockets and center them beneath the nipples before closing the incisions with stitches.
Recovering after your Breast Augmentation Procedure
The procedure typically takes Dr. Kapoor about one hour to perform and is usually performed at an accredited surgery center in Los Angeles. Most women who undergo breast augmentation at our Beverly Hills practice have a relatively quick recovery. After the procedure, patients typically will be in the recovery room for one hour after which time they are discharged.
Patients that choose Dr. Kapoor as their beverly hills plastic surgeon typically do not experience a lot of pain. Commonly there is a sense of pressure on the chest. Pain medications such as Vicodin or Percocet may be required for a few days, after which time plain Tylenol will usually be sufficient. There is typically very little bruising associated with breast augmentation. Some swelling usually occurs and is most severe during the first few days, after which time it slowly resolves. Dressings and bandages can be removed after two days, at which time a woman can take a shower. The vast majority of women can return to work after three to five days at which time they can drive as well.
At the first postoperative visit, which is usually 4-6 days after surgery, our office will provide instructions on how to perform a proper breast massage. This will help reduce the chance of scar tissue forming around your breast implants and also help them settle into position within a quicker time period.
Certain precautions should be taken during the first few weeks however. We typically recommend avoiding any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for the first few weeks after surgery. After this time, a woman can gradually increase her activity level. Furthermore, it is very common to have shooting pains or burning type pain on the skin as this is a sign of the nerves waking up. This may last from 4 to 6 weeks and in some cases longer. After this time period, most women who have undergone breast augmentation with Dr. Kapoor are fully recovered and may proceed with no restrictions. Below is a breakdown on the recovery process:
First 24 hours: You will be closely monitored and receive post-op care until you are ready to go home. You cannot be discharged unless you have someone to drive you home and help you for the first 24 hours after your surgery. It is important to rest with support that elevates your body to reduce swelling. Keep all of your medications and ice packs within arms-reach.
Days 1-5: Your breasts will be supported by a surgical bra and bandages. You should NOT remove these for the first few days, meaning you should avoid taking a full body bath or shower. Rest is key, do not attempt any strenuous physical activity. It is important to walk around the house as much as you can tolerate without feeling discomfort.
First Post Op Visit: At your first post-op visit, Dr. Kapoor will remove your surgical dressing to assess your recovery. Some bruising and swelling is normal and expected. These results won’t be final as your new breasts will take time to settle into your frame.
Week 2:Many patients return to their daily routine, including work, after a week. You will need to wear your support bra as directed, to ensure optimal healing and settling of the implants. Continue to limit your exercise and strenuous activity until cleared to do so by a doctor.
Week 6-8: You should be completely back to normal and enjoying your beautiful new body. Swelling and bruising should be completely gone, and your scars will be healing nicely.
Cost of Breast Implant Procedure in Beverly Hills
The price of breast augmentation in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles varies from practice to practice. Breast augmentation cost will depend on several factors including surgeon experience, whether or not the physician is a fully trained plastic surgeon, and whether or not they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The total cost of the surgery consists of several components. The fees include the following: surgeon's professional fees, anesthesia fees, operating room / facility fees, and breast implant costs. In our practice, we clearly explain the breast augmentation cost and all of the above fees will be specified on a customized quote for our patients.
Another factor that is important in determining the cost of breast augmentation in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles is what type of implant is selected. Within our practice, we offer both saline and silicone breast implants. Silicone implants, on average, tend to cost about $1,000-$1,200 more than saline implants. The benefits of silicone implants are a more natural feel and fewer tendencies for visible or palpable rippling. The main advantage of saline implants is that they are adjustable in terms of volume. Both saline and silicone implants are excellent choices.
Breast Augmentation FAQs
Q. Am I a candidate?
Healthy adult women who seek to improve the size and/or shape of their breasts, can benefit from breast implants. If you are a non-smoker (or willing to stop smoking to ensure optimal recovery) in reasonably good health (free of major disease), and you have realistic expectations, you may be an ideal candidate.
Q. What are the risks?
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications such as allergic reaction to anesthesia or medications, bleeding, and infection. To minimize the possibility of risks and complications occurring, make sure you provide a complete, detailed medical history including any allergies, medications, past surgeries, and any diagnosis.
Short-term risks include anesthetic problems, infection and bleeding. Patients who are in good, general health and have no family history of anesthetic problems, the risks of any adverse outcomes of general anesthesia are minimal. The risk of infection from breast augmentation surgery is usually less than 1%. Our practice is to give antibiotics both before and after surgery for 5-7 days. Rarely a patient may require prolonged antibiotic therapy if an infection does develop. Lastly, risks of bleeding (hematoma) are about 2-3%. If this does occur, it is usually apparent within the first 6 to 12 hours after surgery. If there is significant bleeding, you may need to return to the operating room to have the blood evacuated.
Long-term risks include but are not limited to capsular contracture, bottoming out, rippling, and implant deflation. Capsular contracture or encapsulation occurs from 7-9% in a primary breast augmentation. When this occurs, patients typically have an implant that does not settle into a natural position or the breast becomes hard and sometimes painful. This is due to scar tissue formation around the implant. If this occurs, an additional procedure will be required to remove the scar tissue. Bottoming out or displacement of implants may occur over time if an implant is very heavy or if the implant pocket becomes stretched out. If this occurs an additional procedure will be required to re-tighten the implant pocket and re-position the implant. You can see some examples of this here.
Risks of breast augmentation are minimized when you have an experienced reconstructive and revision specialist like Dr. Kapoor perform your procedure.
Q. Where and how is the procedure performed?
Dr. Kapoor will perform breast augmentation at the Beverly Hills Wellness Surgery Center, a state-of-the-art AAAHC-certified facility, or in one of the hospitals he's affiliated with in Los Angeles. The procedure will be performed on an outpatient basis, with general anesthesia administered to the patient.
I am so happy I decided to go with Dr. Kapoor; He made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. I felt it was more of a family experience then a doctor patient experience. I wouldn’t change a thing about my results and experience only that I should have done it sooner. I had many friends that have had the breast implants with other doctors and regret not going to mine. He has you best interest at heart, so listen carefully to his recommendations on size. He is the MICHAEL ANGELO of breast implants.
Adrienne J. – Los Angeles, CA / Breast Augmentation
I would recommend Dr. Kapoor because he is a very considerate physician. I felt like he cared about my experience, he was not a sales man like many other surgeons I have encountered. He calmly explained the pros and the cons of my surgery and answered ALL of my questions. He made me feel really comfortable and since I was a little scared to have a surgical procedure done; it felt good to know that I could bring all my concerns to his attention. He addresses all my concerns and proved that he was sympathetic. I felt that I can trust him. Overall I had an easy time with surgery and an easy recovery. Dr. Kapoor was always available for help and just general check-ups even after my surgery I had several follow up visits.
